Review: The Sleeping Prince by Melinda Salisbury (The Sin EatersDaughter #2)

27281393

Return to the darkly beautiful world of The Sin Eater's Daughter with a sequel that will leave you awed, terrified . . . and desperate for more.

Ever since her brother Lief disappeared, Errin's life has gone from bad to worse. Not only must she care for her sick mother, she has to scrape together rent money by selling illegal herbal cures. But none of that compares to the threat of the vengeful Sleeping Prince whom the Queen just awoke from his enchanted sleep.

When her village is evacuated as part of the war against the Sleeping Prince, Errin is left desperate and homeless. The only person she can turn to is the mysterious Silas, a young man who buys deadly poisons from Errin, but won't reveal why he needs them. Silas promises to help her, but when he vanishes, Errin must journey across a kingdom on the brink of war to seek another way to save her mother and herself. But what she finds shatters everything she believed about her world, and with the Sleeping Prince drawing nearer, Errin must make a heartbreaking choice that could affect the whole kingdom.

So I was a little worried about picking this up, I have loved The Sin Eaters Daughter and most of all the characters in it. So when I realised this was going to be about different characters I was a little worried. But I needn't worry at all because Melinda has done it again, she has produced another book I love why with superb characters.

This book takes off some time after the first one and follows Lief's sister Errin. Lief has been my favourite character in the first book and his family has been mentioned before. Errin is having a hard time without her brother there to help. She has to look after her sick mother and come up with the rent for their cottage, to do so she makes poisons and herbal cures. With The Sleeping Prince coming forever closer and now threatening her home, everyone has to move to savety. But Errin can not move her mother. Errin discovers a secret about her very mysterious friend, which she is using to get him to help her and her mother... however things don't go to plan.

This is a very different story to the first one, but I loved it just as much. Errin is an amazing character, even while facing the biggest danger out there she is still fighting to save her mother at all cost. She is strong and loyal. But it's Silas that is gonna stick with me. He could not be more mysterious if he tried and I couldn't wait to figure him out. Once again Salisbury comes up with some amazing twists that I did not see coming at all, leaving you yearning for the next book as soon as you are finished. I think the last book is going to bring this story to an unforgettable ending. The way book one and two have been melted together is pure genius.

Filled with amazing new and existing characters and world building at its finest this has once again been a very fun and enjoyable read. The writing is just outstanding and pure bliss to read. I can honestly say that I will have all of Salisbury's books on preorder from now on.

Unique, impressive and captivating. I just totally love this series and wish it didn't have to end.
